Your pet also deserves a carefree summer
Summer is a wonderful time. Long walks, lounging in the garden, and enjoying the beautiful weather together. But while we fully enjoy the sun, our loyal four-legged friends can unknowingly suffer from pollen and heat. With a little extra attention, you help your pet feel comfortable even during the hottest days.
Watch for the signs
Like people, dogs and cats can be sensitive to pollen. Do you notice your pet sneezing more often, scratching their mouth or eyes a lot, or suffering from red, watery eyes? This could be a sign that pollen is causing irritation. By paying close attention to these signals, you can quickly do something to reduce the discomfort.
A fresh start after every walk
After a walk through the forest, park, or tall grass, you unknowingly bring a lot of pollen home. By thoroughly brushing your dog’s or cat’s coat and rinsing their paws with lukewarm water, you remove a large part of this pollen. A small grooming moment that often also becomes a nice cuddle time.
You can also help indoors. On days with lots of pollen, it’s wise to keep windows and doors closed as much as possible. An air purifier can also contribute to a fresher and cleaner living environment for both you and your pet.
Extra care for dogs
Dogs love being outside, but they also need cooling. A cooling mat or cooling vest can really make a difference on hot days. Also consider a shade cloth for on the go, so you always have a cool spot for your dog. Going swimming? Always choose clean, flowing water and avoid stagnant water where blue-green algae may occur. This keeps a refreshing dip truly safe.
Extra care for cats
Cats often find a cool spot on their own, but they also appreciate a bit of extra comfort. Provide plenty of shade indoors, regularly brush out loose hairs from their undercoat, and optionally place a cool tile where your cat can relax comfortably.
Extra care for small rodents and rabbits
Keep rodents and rabbits cool by placing a frozen water bottle wrapped in a tea towel in their cage or a cold stone in their enclosure.
Enjoying summer together
With a few small adjustments, you can make summer much more enjoyable for your pet. A little extra attention, a grooming moment after walks, and plenty of cooling will ensure you can both enjoy all the beautiful summer days without worries.
